God Bless the USA - Super Duper Burgers

Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, screams American more than a good honest burger. Sure you might argue that the Auzzie's make great burgers. Eggs and beetroot do indeed make a great compliment to a juicy burger. But nobody makes better burgers than the Americans. And I LOVE hamburgers. So we just had to go to Super Duper Burgers.

Located right smack on Market Street, Super Duper Burgers is a convenient place to go to. But it isn't the location that is super duper. Almost everything about the place is super duper. They use sustainable, organic, and locally sourced ingredients. The prices are great, especially for a big city like SF. Their single patty (4 oz.) burger is priced at US$5.50 while their double patty (2 x 4 oz.) burger costs US$7.75. Your choice of condiments? Lettuce, tomato, red onions, jalapeños, grilled onions, housemade pickles. All for free. For posher ingredients you can pay $1 per ingredient. The decor? High ceilings, well-lit yet cozy, wood-themed, open kitchen. I wasn't too impressed by their taste in music. Their playlist and song choices seemed random and did nothing to enhance the mood of the cafe. Especially when their chefs were blasting Spanish tunes in direct competition against the music played on the house system. Oh well.

But ok. Let's talk food though. My beef with burgers is that quite often the buns are soggy, the burgers are overcooked and dry, the vegetables limp and gross. None of that this time! The first comment Maryn and I made was how much we enjoyed the actual bun. Well toasted and well seasoned. There is nothing worst than a limp, soggy bun that disintegrates mid-meal. This burger passed that test. The vegetables and cheese were fine. Good, fresh. Nothing spectacular. That patty though. Juicy. Tasty. Still slightly pink in the middle, how great burgers are cooked. That way you taste the sweetness of the beef and not just...some grainy, dry meat. What I liked about this burger is that they let the meat do the talking. Minimize the fancy add-ons, focus on what a burger is truly about. If you find yourself in SF, Super Duper Burgers is a place you should definitely go to. God Bless the USA.
